What Comes First? Inspection or Training?

Group of Trainees

At Helix Construction, we don’t just train—we train safely and effectively. ACCT Chapter 3 B.1.7 sets a clear expectation:

Training needs to happen on a course that has been inspected and maintained to the current edition of the standards.

But what does that actually mean for our teams and trainees? Let’s break it down.

1. Safety Starts with Inspection

Before any training session, every course needs to undergo a thorough inspection. Every detail is to be checked, from structural elements to safety equipment. These inspections ensure that every platform, rope, and obstacle is in working condition.

2. Proactive Maintenance Keeps Standards High

Maintenance isn’t just about fixing problems—it’s about preventing them. Courses are continuously inspected and maintained to reduce risks. Compliance the latest DPI standards goes a long way to reducing potential issues on the course. This ensures that every training session is predictable, safe, and fully compliant.

3. Training Is More Effective When Everything Works

Effective training depends on a reliable environment. When every element—anchors, belay systems, platforms, and safety equipment—is functioning exactly as intended, trainees can stay focused on learning instead of reacting to issues.

A properly inspected and maintained course removes distractions, builds trust in the equipment, and allows instructors to deliver clear, consistent instruction. The result is better skill development, stronger confidence, and safer performance in real-world applications.

Why It Matters

Training on an outdated or substandard course can lead to accidents, confusion, and regulatory issues. Following ACCT Chapter 3 B.1.7 ensures:

  • Maximum safety for all participants

  • Compliance with industry standards

  • Reliable, repeatable training outcomes

Risk reduction isn’t optional and excellence should be the norm. Every course we run meets the highest expectations, because your safety—and your success—comes first.
